The Politics of Deservingness: Discourses of Gender, Race, and Class in the 2005 Social Security Debates

Susanne Beechey is a doctoral candidate in gender and social policy at the George Washington University School of Public Policy and Public Administration. Her work centers on questions of gender, race, and class in American social policy. This talk draws from her dissertation research, which is supported by an American Association of University Women dissertation fellowship. For the past three years, Susanne has served as a lecturer in the Women’s Studies program at George Washington University. Next fall she will begin a position as Assistant Professor of Politics at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.
